Learning Intentions
To learn how fire rules have changed over time in response to tragedies.
Notes
There is an old expression that “Safety rules are written in blood”. This is particularly true in the case of fire rules, as they have adapted over time in response to many tragedies.
As you look at the following images, think about the following questions:
- What is the role of a fire door in a fire?
- Why do you think that fire exits are supposed to open outwards?
- Why do they use bars on fire exit doors instead of handles?
- How has the design of the bars changed? Why?
