Servings: 2 pie bottoms
- 5 cups flour
- 1 pound shortening
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup very cold water
- Mix dry ingredients well.
- Cut in shortening with 2 knives.
- Work well with pastry blender (don't overwork it).
- Add water, work in with pastry blender. You may need to add up to 1 1/2 cups of cold water before the pastry reaches the appropriate texture.
- Leave outside on cupboard in plastic bag overnight.
