Pasta Sauce

Ingredients
- 500 g Italian sausage
- 300 g ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes canned
- 12 oz tomato paste canned
- 13 oz tomato sauce canned
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 1.5 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp fennel seed
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper
Optional
- 2 cups brown mushrooms sliced
- 1 bag spinach
Instructions
- Cook the sausage, ground beef, onion, mushrooms, and garlic until the meat is well-browned.
- Add the rest of the ingredients except the spinach, and cook, covered, on low heat for 1.5 hours.
- Steam the spinach for about 2 minutes. Set aside.
- With 10 minutes left in the cooking time, stir the spinach into the sauce.
